Résumés that Work!

For those of you who are seeking new career opportunities in this challenging job market, DER has started a new group to support you. Aptly named "Fundraisers in Transition," this group will meet regularly (frequency to be determined by the group) to discuss search strategies, share job leads and interviewing tips, swap tales from the trenches and cheer each other on. 

 

The next meeting of FIT will be held on Monday, July 12 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Foundation Center.  

Is your résumé getting the results you want? Attention, interest, excitement from potential employers?  Are you sending out dozens of résumés and no response? 

 

Today's résumés are marketing tools, designed to answer the question "how can this person solve our business problems?"  That question has to be answered within 10-12 seconds creating interest and noting the value the candidate brings to the table.   Résumés are targeted documents tailored for each position and must address the employers' business problems.  In today's market place, a position is open only because an organization has a problem they need solved, e.g. more growth, more output, more efficiency, more service, etc.  A candidate must translate their experiences into value they can provide through sharing value/results they have provided previous employers. 

 

 

 

Join us on July 12th...RoJean DeChantal, is Senior Consultant at Torchiana, Mastrov & Sapiro, the Bay area's premier career continuation company.  She has 20+ years as a Human Resources executive in a variety of national consumer goods and customer service organizations.  She will be sharing information on how to identify value/results and create a résumé that gets noticed.  She will also review how to best use your résumé and other tools/resources in finding your next opportunity. Plan to bring your current résumé, learn some key principles, and then craft value statements with your colleagues.
